Blyss Music --Emotions - Destiny's Child acapella cover <3

I don't wander the halls of YouTube too often unless I am linked to something interesting. Someone on Baby Gaga posted a thread mentioning this group and I think they sound fantastic.

Check them out.

No Homo?

There is a slue of verbal phrases that come & go in the young community, some are comical, but for the most part they're all absurd and wouldn't be caught coming from my lips.  One however, is so ridiculous and offensive, every time I see it I want to gouge my eyes out.

In an effort to ensure that everyone around you knows that you're NOT a homosexual, before or after you pay someone of the same sex a compliment you have to say "No Homo,"  which in my opinion only affirms your sexual insecurity.  Seriously? That is ridiculous.  Not to mention, a huge insult to the homosexual community. The comment insinuates that homosexuality is some sort of contagious disease that you can catch. It wouldn't at all surprise me if some folks believed that. The ignorance is astounding.

From what I hear the term originated from the rap community (no surprise there) ::eye roll:: Why is there so much negativity radiating from the rap community? Furthermore why are there so many people blindly following these trends? Someone even told me they heard a gay person say "no homo" ::sideways look::

I am beyond appalled at this "new" verbal epidemic. If you haven't heard it, consider yourself lucky. I swear my generation never ceases to disappoint me.

Happy Birthday Gavin, Love Mommy

It's hard to look back and see how swiftly time passes us by. On this day 2 years ago I gave birth to this tiny (well not so tiny 8lbs 14oz) miracle we named Gavin. He was small and helpless and perfect. Now, 2 years later he is still pretty small but definitely more independent, self-sufficient and absolutely still perfect (in my eyes anyway) Sometimes we have our toddler battles like when he rather watch an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba for the 40th time than eat his breakfast, but those are minor hurdles that I brush off in favor of whatever makes him happy.

No one ever tells you that parenting is the hardest job you'll ever have. You will often hear a new parent say that it is the best thing that has ever happened to them, I cannot attest enough to how true this statement is. You will never in your entire life as long or short as God allows you to dwell on his green earth feel a greater sense of love than you do for the human being that you give life to.  However, along with the unconditional love and sympathy you acquire comes a serious sense of overwhelming fear. For now you have a human life that depends solely on you for their well being. But the reward is ever so great.

My sweet baby is 2. Boy, how time flies. I wish you all the love and happiness in the world my dear Gavin, I'd sacrifice my life for yours in a heartbeat and I'll do my very best to ensure you have the skills and lessons to lead the best life possible.

So, it's a New Year

I'm not sure what this new year will bring, I am semi-sympathetic, I suppose it's because nothing went as I had planned last year, maybe that's my fault. They say if you want to hear God laugh tell him what you have planned. ::sigh::  He is probably laughing out loud at me.

I didn't make any resolutions, I don't believe in them. Anything that I could start on January first I could have started 2-3 weeks months ago if I really wanted to make a change. I actually get a quiet little chuckle out of all of those who make resolutions to quit smoking or to lose weight...lol. I am curious about how many people (statistically) stay committed to these tricks of the mind. We shall see.

It's amazing how refreshing and redundant a new year is though. New aspirations, hopes and dreams that come along with old debt and problems that slyly followed you in from the last year. As soon as I open up my new savings account in hopes to save a little change, that bitch Sallie Mae emails me to kindly remind me that I owe her $30K. At least I get comfort from her constant consistency. I know she'll always be there for me, I can always count on her emails and phone calls if I can't count on anyone else. Yep, Mrs. Me and I will be sure friends for years to come.

With that said I pray you find comfort in this new year, may you find peace and prosperity and a wealth of new knowledge that overflows and may all your debt collectors catch crabs and their arms be too short to scratch.

Too many babies dying

I am stricken with despondency. Why do people continue to have children they they care nothing about?

Lately there have been an abundance of cases of child abuse, rape and murder. All of these little blessing being-mistreated because of the selfish behavior of young, inexperienced adults. How many more children have to die?

It is difficult enough for me to understand when God calls an infant or child home before they have yet shed their child hood skin, but these senseless murders are far more bewildering and saddening.

I look at my son and know the pain I feel when his lip starts to quiver and his tears begin to fall and couldn't imagine doing anything but comforting him.

My heart is heavy, cheerless and stricken with grief.
RIP little children.

Time to give up the boob.

I do realize that breastfeeding has an overabundance of advantages. It protects your baby from gastrointestinal trouble, respiratory problems, ear infections and can prevent them from developing allergies.

However, at what age should one decide to ween their child from the breast? 12 months? 18 months? My opinion 1 year, but I am not a breastfeeding mother.

Many say the child decides....well in this case the mother took that literally. Her daughter is 8 years old and still breastfeeds regularly....yes I said 8 years old.

I believe at some point it gets to be in a way "perverted" But that may just be my "American" mind, since we are one of the few countries that associates the female breast with sexuality.

I am all about attachment parenting and encourage parents to bond with their children in whatever fashion they deem adequate, but in my personal opinion this is distasteful and a bit damaging.

I am NOT my hair

What is it about having short hair that invigorates me?

It's as if when I cut my hair off a weight lifts off of my shoulders, it is so much more than the superficiality of the outward manifestation. In that respect it is nearly depthless, my thirst for external acceptance is long gone. It has now become about loving me. My excitement can hardly be contained.

Black women have always had a “hair dilemma”, myself included, which I highly attribute to black men. Too often short hair has been arbitrarily linked to lesbianism of unattractiveness. I understand that we live in a pretentious country but to the effect that something as trivial as the hair on your head can decide your relationship fate or career fate is a bit nonsensical.

Perms, dyes, braids, weave, and whatever unnecessary added elements give us security that we should already own with our natural hair. I often hear women say “I can’t go natural”----How can you NOT go back to your natural state? It is after all the state you were born with. Why is it not good enough for you?

We don’t want “nappy” hair….nappy is a state of mind, if you want to be nappy you will if you don’t want to be nappy you won’t, it is as simple as that. We give the external far too much power. If your confidence shines from the outside then that is all anyone will see. They will only see your insecurities if you let them.

I have seen many black women going natural these days and it makes me proud. It is about so much more than hair, it is about breaking the chains of insecurity and accepting that you are not defined by your hair, clothes or any other cosmetic curses.

If you are thinking of going natural this site helped me tremendously.
